imageAxel van de Walle
Assistant Professor of Materials Science
Designing and employing software tools constituting a so-called "virtual laboratory," where materials can be discovered, optimized, and characterized through automated high-throughput computational techniques.
Thad Vreeland, Jr.
Professor of Materials Science, Emeritus

W

imagePaul O. Wennberg
R. Stanton Avery Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry and Environmental Engineering

Laboratory and field studies probing the processes controlling photochemistry, dynamics, and radiation in the Earth's atmosphere; spectroscopy and kinetics; aircraft-borne and ground-based instrument development.
Gerald B. Whitham
Charles Lee Powell Professor of Applied Mathematics, Emeritus
imageAdam Wierman
Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Wierman's research focuses on using mathematical models to provide insight into the design of computer systems. He applies analytic models and tools that are traditionally used in the operations research community in order to evaluate the impact of design decisions in systems such as web servers, routers, databases, and beyond. His work applies and often extends techniques in stochastic modeling, queueing theory, scheduling theory, and game theory.
imageErik Winfree
Associate Professor of Computer Science, Computation and Neural Systems, and Bioengineering
Molecular computation, including DNA-based computers, computing by self-assembly, genetic regulatory networks, signal transduction cascades, ribosomal translation, DNA and RNA folding.
Theodore Y. Wu
Professor of Engineering Science, Emeritus

General fluid, geophysical and biophysical mechanics, ocean waves, transport processes.
