Invitation To: High-School Science, Math, and Technology Teachers in the Los Angeles Area Several members of the CNSE Local Educators' Network (LEN) expressed an interest in holding lab visits and open houses at Caltech, and the majority of LEN members expressed a desire to include underserved students in our outreach programs. In response to this feedback, we are proud to announce that our next Caltech CNSE/CSEM Open House, Opportunities for You in Science and Engineering, will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2003 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This Opportunities program will showcase science and engineering research labs in both the Center for Neuromorphic Systems Engineering and the Center for the Science and Engineering of Materials. Both Centers are funded by the National Science Foundation. Activities include:
Please select up to 5 students from your school to attend this event. Please choose sophomores and juniors who show an interest in or aptitude for science and/or math. We encourage you to consider including females, under-represented minorities, and students with disabilities. We hope that you will be able to accompany your students. If you are unable to attend, please recruit another teacher at your school who can accompany the students. Please invite participating students' parents to come as well. Space for this program is limited, and participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. To expand the CNSE LEN and/or form a CSEM LEN, you may invite an additional science or math teacher from your school to attend this event. If you decide to attend and bring students, we will send to you permission-release forms (or download English or Spanish pdf versions here) that will need to be completed by each participant. Please collect the completed forms in advance of the event, and fax (626 795 4765) or send them to Caltech by May 1, 2003. Those without completed permission forms will not be able to participate. Caltech will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks for all students, their parents and teachers, who participate in the Open House.
